Target Information

Parathyroid hormone (PTH) secretion from parathyroid cells is controlled by extracellular calcium (Ca) levels. iPTH levels can be measured through a blood test and are essential for diagnosing and managing parathyroid disorders. The levels of intact PTH and total PTH are closely correlated. Elevated iPTH levels can indicate primary hyperparathyroidism, a condition where the parathyroid glands produce excessive PTH. Low iPTH levels may occur in hypoparathyroidism, leading to low blood calcium levels.
