Target Information

Nocardia is a genus of weakly staining Gram-positive, catalase-positive, rod-shaped bacteria. Certain species are nonpathogenic, while others cause nocardiosis. Some species can lead to opportunistic infections in domestic animals, wildlife, and humans. In dogs, nocardiosis is a rare disease characterized by suppurative to granulomatous inflammation, with potential for systemic dissemination. Nocardia seriolae tends to infect immunocompromised and surface-damaged fish, resulting in significant losses for the aquaculture industry.
