Target Information

Campylobacter jejuni is categorized into two subspecies: C. jejuni subsp. jejuni (Cjj) and C. jejuni subsp. doylei (Cjd). A key phenotypic trait used to differentiate Cjd from Cjj is Cjd's inability to reduce nitrate. Although Cjd presents atypical clinical symptoms, it is rarely isolated, and there are comparatively fewer strains of this subspecies than of Cjj.
