Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans is a Gram-negative, nonmotile, facultative anaerobic bacterium commonly linked to localized aggressive periodontitis, a severe infection affecting the periodontium. It is also believed to play a role in chronic periodontitis. The bacterium features specific virulence factors, such as the pore-forming toxin leukotoxin A, which enable it to invade tissues.
