Target Information

Streptococcus porcinus is commonly found in animals but shows a particular affinity for pigs, where it can occasionally cause disease. Asymptomatic carrier animals may harbor the bacteria in their nasal mucosa and palatine tonsils for up to 21 months following initial exposure. Transmission typically occurs through aerosols, or through drinking water, feed, and soil that have been contaminated by oral and nasal secretions.
