Target Information
Mouse Intercellular Adhesion Molecule 1 (ICAM1) is a transmembrane glycoprotein that plays a central role in leukocyte trafficking, immune responses, and tissue repair. It is expressed at low levels in immune, endothelial, and epithelial cells but is upregulated during inflammation in response to cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-1. ICAM1 mediates leukocyte adhesion and transendothelial migration during inflammation, facilitating immune cell infiltration into tissues. It also regulates endothelial and epithelial barrier function by interacting with the cytoskeleton and signaling pathways, such as Rho-GTPases and MAP kinases, to modulate permeability. In addition to its role in inflammation, ICAM1 is involved in tissue repair and wound healing by promoting epithelial cell proliferation and neovascularization. It has also been implicated in tumor progression, where it facilitates the survival and dissemination of circulating tumor cells. ICAM1 serves as a therapeutic target in diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease, where its inhibition may reduce inflammation and tissue damage.
