Campylobacter rectus was initially identified as Wolinella recta in 1981. As a species within the Campylobacter genus, it is recognized as a pathogen involved in chronic periodontitis, a condition that can lead to bone loss. This motile bacterium is Gram-negative and a facultative anaerobe.
