Bartonella henselae, a species within the Bartonella genus, ranks among the most prevalent types of bacteria worldwide. Previously referred to as Rochalimæa henselae, this bacterium is responsible for causing cat-scratch disease. Infections typically occur following scratches from domestic or feral cats, particularly kittens.
