Rat Myoblast Cell Line-L6
Product Overview
Rat Myoblast Cell Line-L6 was originally isolated from the first two generations of primary cultures of rat thigh muscle, grown in the presence of methylcholanthrene. In culture, L6 cells fuse to form multinucleated myotubes and striated muscle fibers. The degree of cell fusion decreases with increasing passage number, so these cells should be frozen at low passages and periodically re-cloned to select for cells with strong fusion capabilities. If the cells are allowed to overgrow in the culture vessel, the myogenic component of this cell line will rapidly deplete. Testing has shown these cells are negative for ectromelia virus (mousepox).
