Zebrafish (Danio rerio) are small, freshwater tropical fish native to the streams, ponds, and rice paddies of India's northeast. They have slender bodies decorated with striking blue and silver stripes on both sides of their bodies, hence their name. They have become a pivotal model organism in scientific research due to several key characteristics that make them highly suitable for various fields of study.
Zebrafish, as versatile model organisms, play a crucial role in diverse scientific disciplines such as developmental biology, genetics, neuroscience, disease research, toxicology, and drug discovery. It has high embryo yield, fast reproduction speed, transparent embryos and low maintenance cost. It has many physiological structures similar to humans, and its genetic background is clear.
