White sturgeon iridovirus (WSIV) disease is caused by a virus from the iridovirus family and is primarily induced by stressful environmental conditions. This diease is a leading cause of mortality in farm-raised white sturgeon across North America, Russia, and Europe. WSIV is an epitheliotropic virus that infects the skin, gills, and upper alimentary tract.
