Target Information
Triclabendazole is a unique benzimidazole anthelmintic used specifically in veterinary medicine to treat liver fluke infestations (Fasciola hepatica and Fasciola gigantica) in livestock such as cattle, sheep, and goats. Unlike other benzimidazoles, it is highly effective against both immature and adult flukes. Its food safety significance stems from the persistence of its active metabolites, Triclabendazole sulfoxide and sulfone, in animal tissues and milk. Regulatory agencies have established strict Maximum Residue Limits for these residues in meat and milk to prevent potential human health risks, including embryotoxicity, and to manage the development of parasitic resistance.
