Target Information
"Total aflatoxins" refers to the sum of the four major types of aflatoxins-B1, B2, G1, and G2-that are produced by certain Aspergillus molds. These molds commonly contaminate crops such as corn, peanuts, and other grains used for animal feed. When animals like dairy cows, pigs, or poultry consume this contaminated feed, the toxins can be metabolized and their residues can be passed into their milk, meat, and eggs. This poses a significant health risk to humans, as aflatoxins are potent carcinogens, with Aflatoxin B1 being the most dangerous. Monitoring for total aflatoxins in feed and food products is crucial for protecting public health.
