Target Information

T-2 toxin is highly relevant to animal-derived food safety. It is a potent mycotoxin belonging to the trichothecene group, produced by various species of Fusarium fungi. These fungi commonly infect agricultural crops like wheat, barley, oats, and maize, which are then used as animal feed. When livestock, particularly poultry and swine, consume contaminated feed, the T-2 toxin can cause a range of severe health issues, including gastrointestinal lesions, hemorrhages, and a weakened immune system. While T-2 toxin itself doesn't accumulate significantly in meat, it can be metabolized into other toxins that can be present in animal-derived products, posing a potential risk to human health.
