Target Information

Homocysteine is an amino acid produced by the body during the normal breakdown of proteins. Elevated levels of homocysteine, a condition known as hyperhomocysteinemia, can indicate specific health issues. High homocysteine levels are often associated with deficiencies in vitamins B6, B12, or folate. In piglets, there is an acute 10-fold increase of plasma concentrations of homocysteine (pHcy) during the first 2 wk of life.
