Target Information
Cytochrome c oxidase subunit II is encoded by the porcine COX2 gene. Cytochrome c oxidase is the major terminal acceptor of the electron transfer chain in mitochondria, catalyzing oxygen reduction coupled to proton pumping. It is synthesized as a precursor in the mitochondrial matrix with a 15 amino acid leader sequence and cotranslationally inserted into the inner mitochondrial membrane in a process mediated by the Oxa1 translocase.
