Iridoviruses are large DNA viruses known as nuclear and cytoplasmic large DNA viruses (NCLDVs) that target invertebrates and cold-blooded vertebrates, including insects, fish, amphibians, reptiles, crustaceans, and mollusks. The soft-shelled turtle iridovirus (STIV) causes significant systemic diseases in cultured soft-shelled turtles (Trionyx sinensis).
