Target Information

Interleukin 5 is encoded by the IL5 gene in sheep. It is an interleukin produced by type 2 T helper cells and mast cells. By binding to the IL5 receptor, IL5 stimulates B-cell growth and increases immunoglobulin secretion, primarily IgA. IL-5 is a key mediator in eosinophil activation. It regulates the accumulation of eosinophils in tissues and modulates their behavior from maturation to survival.
