Target Information

Seoul virus (SEOV) is a significant cause of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS). It is carried by both the brown rat (Rattus norvegicus) and the black rat (Rattus rattus). Within its natural hosts, SEOV results in an asymptomatic, persistent infection and is transmitted through excretions, as well as through fighting and grooming activities.
