Target Information
White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) is a large, enveloped, double-stranded DNA virus and the sole member of the Whispovirus genus. It is the most devastating pathogen in global shrimp aquaculture, targeting tissues of ectodermal and mesodermal origin, such as the cuticular epithelium and gills. Key targets for diagnostics, therapeutic neutralization, and host-interaction studies include major envelope structural proteins-specifically VP28 and VP26-which play critical roles in cell attachment, systemic infection, and viral entry.
