Target Information

The E2 glycoprotein is the primary host-cell attachment protein for WEEV, forming a heterodimer with E1 on the viral surface. It facilitates viral entry by binding to specific cellular receptors, such as heparan sulfate or the laminin receptor. As the most immunodominant surface protein, E2 contains the majority of neutralizing epitopes, making it a critical target for diagnostic assays, monoclonal antibody therapies, and the development of recombinant subunit vaccines against alphavirus infections.
