Target Information

The Envelope (E) protein is the principal structural glycoprotein on the surface of the Tick-borne Encephalitis Virus (TBEV). It mediates viral attachment to host receptors and triggers membrane fusion within the endosome. Arranged as head-to-tail homodimers, the E protein is the primary target for neutralizing antibodies and is the essential component of all licensed TBEV vaccines. It contains three distinct structural domains (DI, DII, and DIII), with DIII being a major determinant of viral tropism and host immune recognition.
