Target Information
Swine diamine oxidase (DAO) is an enzyme that plays a significant role in the metabolism of biogenic amines, particularly in the gastrointestinal tract. It is involved in the breakdown of histamine and other diamines, which is crucial for maintaining physiological homeostasis and preventing the accumulation of these amines that could otherwise lead to toxic effects. DAO is also an indicator of intestinal mucosal damage, with increased levels in the serum indicating potential injury or inflammation in the gut.
