Target Information
Alpha-hemolysin (Hla) is a vital pore-forming cytotoxin secreted by Staphylococcus aureus. It is produced as a water-soluble monomer that binds to the ADAM10 receptor on host cell membranes, where it oligomerizes into a functional heptameric $\beta$-barrel pore. This pore causes rapid leakage of cytoplasmic contents and osmotic lysis. Hla plays a critical role in disrupting epithelial barriers and evading the host immune system, making it a primary target for neutralizing antibodies and vaccine development.
