Target Information

The E protein is the primary structural component of the St. Louis Encephalitis Virus (SLEV) surface, mediating host cell receptor binding and membrane fusion. It is organized as head-to-tail homodimers that undergo a pH-dependent conformational change during viral entry. As the principal target for neutralizing antibodies, the E protein is the most critical antigen for vaccine development and serological diagnostics. It contains highly conserved flavivirus epitopes and species-specific domains that determine viral tropism and pathogenesis.
