Target Information
LpfB is a periplasmic chaperone belonging to the chaperone-usher (CU) pathway, specifically involved in the biogenesis of long polar fimbriae (Lpf) in Salmonella pullorum. It functions by binding nascent fimbrial subunits in the periplasm, preventing their premature aggregation and misfolding. LpfB facilitates the transport of these subunits to the LpfC usher for assembly into filamentous appendages. These fimbriae are critical for bacterial adherence to host intestinal M cells and play a significant role in colonization and biofilm formation.
