Target Information
The Rabies Virus Nucleoprotein (N) is the most abundant viral protein and plays a fundamental role in viral replication. It tightly encapsidates the single-stranded genomic RNA to form the ribonucleoprotein (RNP) complex, protecting it from host nucleases and serving as the template for transcription. Beyond its structural role, the N protein modulates the switch from transcription to replication and effectively evades host innate immunity by inhibiting interferon regulatory factor 3 (IRF3) signaling. It is a primary marker for rabies diagnosis.
