Target Information
Rabbit T-cell Surface Glycoprotein CD4 (CD4) is a critical receptor on the surface of T cells that facilitates the interaction between T cells and antigen-presenting cells (APCs). This interaction is essential for the activation of T cells and the subsequent immune response. In rabbits, CD4 has been extensively studied in the context of HIV-1 infection, as it serves as the primary receptor for HIV-1 on rabbit cells. However, differences in the binding sites between human and rabbit CD4 suggest that while rabbit CD4 can support HIV-1 infection, it may not be as efficient as the human receptor. Additionally, rabbit CD4 is involved in the regulation of immune responses and is essential for maintaining the function of T cells in the immune system.
