Target Information
Pseudorabies virus glycoprotein E (gE) is a non-essential structural envelope protein of Suid alphaherpesvirus 1. While dispensable for viral replication in vitro, gE is a critical virulence factor required for neurotropism and anterograde axonal transport within the host nervous system. Because gE is deleted from gene-modified live vaccines, it serves as the definitive biomarker in differentiation of infected from vaccinated animals (DIVA) strategies, making it central to eradication programs.
