Target Information
HN is a multifunctional type II transmembrane glycoprotein on the NDV envelope. It mediates viral attachment by binding to sialic acid-containing receptors on host cells and possesses neuraminidase (NA) activity to remove sialic acid, preventing viral self-aggregation and facilitating progeny release. Crucially, HN triggers the Fusion (F) protein to initiate membrane fusion. As a major surface antigen, HN is a primary target for neutralizing antibodies and is the key protein used for serological classification and vaccine development against avian paramyxoviruses.
