Target Information

P97 is a crucial surface-exposed adhesin responsible for the attachment of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae to the ciliated epithelium of the porcine respiratory tract. It contains a highly immunogenic R1 repetitive region at the C-terminus, which is essential for binding to host glycosaminoglycans (like heparin) and cilia. By facilitating colonization and subsequent ciliostasis, P97 plays a primary role in the pathogenesis of porcine enzootic pneumonia, making it a major target for subunit vaccine development and diagnostic assays.
