Target Information
CFP-10 is a highly immunogenic effector protein secreted by the Type VII secretion system (ESX-1). It forms a tight 1:1 heterodimeric complex with ESAT-6, which is essential for the virulence of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex, including M. bovis. CFP-10 acts as a molecular chaperone for ESAT-6 and mediates host cell interaction by binding to the surface of macrophages. Because the esxB gene is located in the RD1 genomic region-which is absent in all BCG vaccine strains-CFP-10 is a critical target for differentiating infected from vaccinated animals (DIVA) and is a primary component of IGRA diagnostic assays.
