Target Information

Mouse Vitamin K-Dependent Protein Z (Proz) is a glycoprotein involved in blood coagulation. It acts as a cofactor to enhance the inhibition of coagulation factor Xa by the serpin protein Z-dependent protease inhibitor (ZPI). Proz is synthesized in the liver and secreted into the plasma. It regulates blood coagulation and has been implicated in various thrombotic disorders. Deficiencies in Proz can lead to a procoagulant state, characterized by excessive factor Xa secretion and thrombin production, which is linked to several thrombotic disorders, including arterial vascular and venous thromboembolic diseases. Proz has also been associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes, such as recurrent miscarriage, stillbirth, preeclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction, and placental abruption. The mechanism by which Proz deficiency leads to these outcomes is not fully understood but is thought to be multifactorial. Proz is a potential therapeutic target in conditions related to thrombosis and pregnancy complications.
