Target Information
Mouse Troponin I, Fast Skeletal Muscle (Tnni2) is a regulatory protein in the sarcomere that plays a crucial role in muscle contraction. It is specifically expressed in fast-twitch skeletal muscles and inhibits actin-myosin interactions, preventing muscle contraction in the absence of calcium. Upon calcium binding, Tnni2 undergoes conformational changes that allow actin and myosin to interact, leading to muscle contraction. Tnni2 is essential for the proper functioning of fast skeletal muscles and is involved in muscle development and adaptation to exercise. Mutations in Tnni2 can lead to muscle disorders characterized by impaired muscle contraction and weakness. In mouse models, Tnni2 deficiency results in severe muscle dysfunction and early postnatal lethality, highlighting its critical role in muscle physiology.
