Target Information
Mouse Sodium/potassium-Transporting ATPase Subunit Alpha-1 (Atp1a1) is a critical subunit of the Na+/K+-ATPase enzyme, which is responsible for maintaining the electrochemical gradient of sodium and potassium ions across the plasma membrane. This gradient is essential for various physiological processes, including osmoregulation, ion transport, and the generation of action potentials in nerve and muscle cells. The enzyme consists of a large catalytic α-subunit (Atp1a1) and a smaller glycoprotein β-subunit. Atp1a1 is widely expressed in various tissues such as the kidney, brain, and skeletal muscle. In research, Atp1a1 serves as a vital tool for studying cellular physiology and pathophysiology. For instance, it plays a role in signal transduction pathways, interacting with proteins like Src to regulate cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Atp1a1 is also implicated in several diseases. Its dysfunction is associated with neurological disorders like Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 2D and epilepsy.
