Target Information
Mouse Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin (Shbg) is a carrier protein primarily responsible for transporting sex hormones such as estradiol and testosterone in the bloodstream. It is mainly produced in the liver but can also be expressed in other tissues, including the spleen, testis, and placenta. Shbg binds to sex hormones with high affinity, controlling the availability of free hormones for target cells and regulating their biological effects. In mouse models, Shbg has been shown to play a role in modulating hormone levels during development and sexual maturation. Additionally, Shbg may participate in non-genomic signaling pathways in immune cells by interacting with membrane estrogen receptors, influencing estradiol uptake and subsequent signaling events.
