Target Information
Mouse Serum Amyloid A-2 Protein (Saa2) is an acute-phase reactant primarily produced in the liver in response to inflammatory stimuli, such as IL-1β, IL-6, and LPS. It is highly homologous to Saa1, with both proteins playing critical roles in inflammation regulation. Saa2 is involved in enhancing cytokine and chemokine responses during sterile inflammation and promoting bacterial clearance in infectious conditions. It also displaces apolipoprotein A1 from high-density lipoprotein (HDL) during acute phases, contributing to pro-inflammatory effects. Additionally, Saa2 is a precursor for amyloid A (AA) fibril formation, which can lead to amyloidosis. In mice, Saa2 is predominantly deposited as amyloid, and certain mouse strains show resistance to AA amyloidosis due to specific Saa2 polymorphisms.
