Target Information
Mouse Protein S100-A9 (S100a9) is a calcium-binding protein primarily expressed in myeloid cells and forms a heterodimer with S100a8, known as calprotectin. This complex plays a crucial role in the innate immune response, inflammation, and immune regulation. S100a9 is involved in leukocyte trafficking and has been implicated in various inflammatory diseases. In cancer, S100a9 is frequently overexpressed and associated with poor prognosis and tumor aggressiveness. It promotes tumor progression by activating inflammatory pathways, recruiting immunosuppressive cells, and remodeling the extracellular matrix. High levels of S100a9 can induce endothelial cell apoptosis through inhibition of the Erk signaling pathway, contributing to organ damage in conditions like sepsis.
