Target Information
Mouse Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor 2, Macrophage (Serpinb2) is a member of the serine protease inhibitor (serpin) superfamily. It is primarily known for inhibiting urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA), thereby regulating plasmin generation and influencing processes like cell migration and tissue remodeling. In macrophages, Serpinb2 is induced by pro-inflammatory stimuli and plays a role in modulating macrophage function during inflammation and tissue repair. It has been implicated in various physiological and pathological processes, including immune responses, cancer metastasis, and tissue fibrosis. Serpinb2 also influences macrophage polarization and survival, and its deficiency can lead to impaired immune responses and increased susceptibility to infections. Additionally, Serpinb2 has been studied in the context of kidney injury, where it helps coordinate inflammation resolution and tissue repair. In mouse models, Serpinb2 deficiency is associated with enhanced kidney damage and fibrosis, highlighting its protective role in renal homeostasis. Serpinb2's functions extend beyond protease inhibition, as it can also modulate cell signaling and interact with various cellular components to influence cell behavior and fate.
