Target Information
Mouse Neutrophil Elastase (Elane) is a serine protease that is primarily expressed in neutrophils. It plays a critical role in host defense by degrading bacterial cell walls and extracellular matrix components. Elane is involved in the formation of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), which are networks of fibers that trap and kill pathogens. However, excessive activity of Elane can contribute to tissue damage in conditions such as cystic fibrosis and chronic granulomatous disease. Research indicates that Elane is a potential target for therapeutic interventions in inflammatory and infectious diseases.
