Target Information

In mice, Neuromedin-B (Nmb) is a neuropeptide involved in various physiological processes. Nmb is expressed in sensory neurons and is associated with pain perception and neurogenic inflammation. It contributes to thermal nociception and can induce local swelling and sensitization when injected. Nmb also plays a role in itch sensation, as its intradermal injection induces acute itch, likely transmitted through the activation of dorsal root ganglia. Additionally, Nmb is involved in behaviors related to fear and anxiety, stress responses, and feeding regulation. It has been implicated in the regulation of smooth muscle contraction and is found in several peripheral tissues, including the gastrointestinal system and urogenital smooth muscles. Nmb and its receptor are also present in various types of tumors, suggesting potential roles in cancer biology.
