Target Information
Mouse Neural Cell Adhesion Molecule L1 (L1cam) is a transmembrane protein that plays a crucial role in the development and function of the nervous system. It is involved in cell adhesion, migration, and axon guidance during neural development. L1cam facilitates the outgrowth, fasciculation, and guidance of axons, as well as glial process formation and neuronal migration. In adult stages, L1cam is involved in neural plasticity, learning and memory consolidation, and post-injury regeneration. Abnormal expression or mutations in L1cam can lead to severe neurological deficits, including hydrocephalus, agenesis of the corpus callosum, spastic paraplegia, and intellectual disability. Additionally, L1cam has been implicated in various cancers, where it promotes tumor growth, metastasis, and chemoresistance.
