Target Information
Mouse Natriuretic Peptides B (Nppb) is a member of the natriuretic peptide family and functions as a cardiac hormone. It undergoes two cleavage events to become biologically active. Nppb plays a key role in cardiovascular homeostasis through natriuresis, diuresis, vasorelaxation, and inhibition of renin and aldosterone secretion. It specifically binds and stimulates the cGMP production of the NPR1 receptor and also binds the clearance receptor NPR3. Nppb is primarily expressed in the heart and brain, and its concentration in the bloodstream is indicative of heart failure. Mutations in the Nppb gene have been associated with postmenopausal osteoporosis. In mouse models, overexpression of Nppb leads to skeletal overgrowth, while deficiency of Nppb results in cardiac fibrosis. Nppb is also involved in the regulation of blood pressure and has been studied in the context of hypertension and cardiac hypertrophy. It can be quantified in various biological samples such as serum, plasma, and tissue homogenates using ELISA kits. Nppb has been implicated in diseases like heart failure, myocardial infarction, and hypertension, and its levels can serve as a diagnostic and prognostic marker for these conditions. In addition, Nppb has been shown to have a role in skeletal development and may be involved in the pathogenesis of certain bone disorders.
