Target Information
Mouse NADPH Oxidase 4 (Nox4) is a key enzyme that generates reactive oxygen species (ROS) and plays significant roles in oxidative stress and inflammation. It is highly expressed in various tissues, including the heart and vasculature. In mouse models, Nox4 overexpression in the heart leads to mitochondrial oxidative stress, promoting myocardial remodeling and increasing susceptibility to ventricular arrhythmias. Nox4 is also upregulated in myocardial infarction (MI), contributing to oxidative stress and cardiac dysfunction. Inhibition of Nox4 using siRNA or pharmacological inhibitors reduces oxidative stress and improves cardiac function in MI mice. Additionally, Nox4 is implicated in other diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease and type 2 diabetes, where its expression correlates with disease progression.
