Target Information
Mouse Smad2 is a critical intracellular effector of the TGF-β signaling pathway, playing essential roles in embryonic development and tissue homeostasis. Smad2 is predominantly involved in the specification of the embryonic axis and the formation of the definitive endoderm. It acts through the ALK4/7 receptors and is essential for the proper patterning of the anterior-posterior axis during early embryogenesis. Smad2-deficient mice exhibit severe developmental defects, including abnormal craniofacial development and failure to form the anterior definitive endoderm. Additionally, Smad2 is involved in the regulation of mesendoderm differentiation, where it works in concert with Smad3 and Smad4 to promote the expression of key developmental genes. In adult tissues, Smad2 continues to play a role in maintaining tissue homeostasis and regulating cellular responses to TGF-β signaling.
