Target Information
Mouse Microsomal Glutathione S-Transferase 1 (Mgst1) is a key enzyme in the MAPEG family, involved in reducing lipid peroxidation and protecting cells from oxidative stress. It is highly expressed in various tissues, including the liver, brain, and eyes. Mgst1 plays a crucial role in melanin biosynthesis and has been implicated in cancer progression and drug resistance. In gastric cancer, Mgst1 is upregulated and correlates with poor prognosis, promoting cell proliferation and inhibiting ferroptosis through the AKT/GSK-3β/β-catenin pathway. Mgst1 is also involved in autophagy signaling and may serve as a therapeutic target in cancer treatment. Additionally, it has neuroprotective effects in retinal pigment epithelium cells, reducing oxidative damage. Mgst1's functions highlight its potential as a target for treating oxidative stress-related diseases and cancers.
