Target Information
Mouse Integrin Alpha-M (Itgam) is a critical component of the leukocyte-specific integrin Mac-1 (also known as CR3 or CD11b/CD18), which is essential for immune cell adhesion and migration. Itgam forms a heterodimer with the beta-2 integrin subunit (Itgb2) and is highly expressed on macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes. This integrin plays a crucial role in the immune response by facilitating the binding of immune cells to endothelial cells and the phagocytosis of complement-coated particles. In mouse models, Itgam has been implicated in various inflammatory conditions and diseases, including sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy (SIC), where it modulates macrophage recruitment and function. Abnormal expression or function of Itgam has been associated with autoimmune diseases and cancer progression.
