Target Information
Mouse Gremlin-1 (Grem1) is a secreted protein and a member of the DAN family, acting as a potent antagonist of Bone Morphogenetic Proteins (BMPs). It plays a crucial role in embryonic development, tissue homeostasis, and disease progression. In mouse models, Grem1 is essential for limb development, kidney branching morphogenesis, and the maintenance of cellular heterogeneity in pancreatic cancer. Grem1 overexpression in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) cells inhibits epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) by suppressing BMP signaling, thereby reducing tumor malignancy. Additionally, Grem1 is involved in fibrosis, angiogenesis, and metabolic regulation, with its expression impacting bone formation and glucose homeostasis.
