Target Information
Mouse Fatty Acid Synthase (Fasn) is a multifunctional enzyme complex that catalyzes the de novo synthesis of long-chain fatty acids, primarily palmitate (C16:0), from acetyl-CoA and malonyl-CoA using NADPH as a reducing agent. FASN is essential for various physiological processes, including lipid metabolism, energy storage, and membrane biogenesis. In adult mice, FASN expression is typically low except in tissues with high lipid demands, such as adipocytes and certain cancers. FASN overexpression is often observed in tumors, promoting cancer progression and metastasis by supporting rapid cell growth and survival. Additionally, FASN plays a role in immune responses, particularly in inflammasome activation and lipid-mediated inflammatory signaling.
