Target Information

Mouse Endothelial PAS Domain-Containing Protein 1 (Epas1), also known as Hypoxia-Inducible Factor 2α (HIF-2α), is a transcription factor that plays a crucial role in the cellular response to hypoxia. It regulates the expression of genes involved in erythropoiesis, angiogenesis, and glucose metabolism. Epas1 is highly expressed in tissues such as the kidney and liver, where it promotes the production of erythropoietin (EPO) to increase red blood cell production. In mouse models, Epas1 deficiency leads to severe developmental defects, including impaired angiogenesis and embryonic lethality. Additionally, Epas1 is implicated in cancer progression, where it can drive tumor growth by enhancing angiogenesis and metabolic adaptation to hypoxic conditions. Its functions highlight the importance of Epas1 in maintaining oxygen homeostasis and tissue development.
